C.S. Lewis and John F.Kennedy

Dear Friends

For years the death of C.S. Lewis on November 22, 1963 has been overshadowed by the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on that same day. While the anniversary of C.S.Lewis death seldom gets much press, crowds of people crowd into Arlington Memorial Cemetery to watch the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown soldier and climb the hill to John F.Kennedy’s Burning Flame.

Even though our lives will be overshadowed by the powerful of this world, we need to know we are not living for this life. We are living for a reward and home that will last forever.

C.S. Lewis wrote: ''imagine a sheet of paper infinitely extended. That would be eternity. Then on that paper draw a short line to represent time. As the line begins and ends on that infinite expanse, so time began in God and will end in Him''

C.S. Lewis became a follower of Christ as an adult. He immediately put his sharp mind and imagination to work for the glory of God and produced some of the most famous Christian literary works of all time, The Screwtape Letters and The Chronicles of Narnia. His books still sell over 3 million copies a year, 43 years after his death. Even after becoming a well-known British writer, he continued to live a humble life. Numerous invitations poured in from all over the world for him to speak. He turned them down and lived a simple life, pouring two-thirds of his income into Christian causes.

The Bible teaches that everything that we have is a trust from God. A trustee owns nothing, but they are legally accountable for everything.  A trustee is responsible to use all that they have to grow the resources to do the most good. God has given us all time, talents and treasure so we can make an eternal difference.

When we begin to believe the reality of the other side, we start behaving differently on this side. C.S.Lewis wrote:“If you read history, you’ll find that the Christians who did most for the present world were those who thought the most of the next world.”

Many people are living on earth without knowing about eternity. Living without God and God’s plan for our life is like sewing with a needle without thread. Let's thread people to Jesus.

In his Inaugural Address in Washington, D.C. on January 20, 1961 John F. Kennedy said:''Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.''

Wouldn't it be good, if it was said of us Christians, ''that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend to assure they go to heaven.''

Agapé,

J.John
