Christ’s Ambassadors
Dear Friends,
I remember reading that when Queen Victoria was a child, she didn't know she was in line for the throne of England. Her instructors, trying to prepare her for the future, were frustrated because they couldn't motivate her. Finally, her teachers decided to tell her that one day she would become the Queen of England. Upon hearing this, Victoria quietly said, "Then I will be good." The realisation that she had inherited this high calling gave her a sense of responsibility that profoundly affected her conduct from then on.
We Christians ''are Christ's ambassadors'' - 2 Corinthians 5:20. An ambassador is a representative who holds citizenship in one country and represents the interests of his or her country in a foreign country. Sadly, Christians have lost this sense of being ambassadors in this world and have been content to be ordinary citizens of the world. May it never be, for our citizenship is in heaven and we are to fulfil a mission here on earth as advocate's and messenger's of the King of Kings, Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Today, we live in a world of great privilege and we need to know something of what our responsibilities are or we may squander great opportunities. We need to resist the temptation to just enjoy our privileges without fulfilling our God given responsibilities.
Did you know that research shows that in the 2/3rd World, there is only 1 trained Christian worker for every 600,000 people, whereas in the West, the number is 1 out of 1300 people? 27% of the world is unevangelised but only 2.5% of the missions force is sent to the unevangelised. The most unevangelised nations are India, China, Pakistan, Indonesia, Iran, Thailand, Algeria, Morocco, Bangladesh and Nepal.
So what does that mean for us and our Churches regarding global Christianity? There was a slogan I came across years ago 'think globally and act locally' - I prefer to change it to 'act locally and care globally'.
We need to ask the Lord to help us use our advantages as an opportunity to grow in Christ and our ability to contribute to the advancement of His kingdom.
We need to ask the Lord to help us avoid neglecting any opportunity to fulfil Biblical responsibilities to follow His great commandment (Luke 10:27) and His great commission. (Matt. 28:18-20)
I came across Toomey’s Rule: ''It is easy to make decisions on matters for which you have no responsibility''. That is so true!
Let us ask the Lord to help us to not wait on others, but to pro-actively search out fields that are ripe for sowing the good seed of God and the fertiliser of His love and grace.
Shalom,
J.John
